WYW 23 is a 10-year-anniversary reissue, entirely re-mixed and remastered, of the first fully realized Options full-length, What You Want

No re-recording was done here, although I allowed myself a few digital alterations, in order to present the songs truer to how I (think I) envisioned them.

Recording for What You Want began in December 2012, right after some friends and I moved into a practice space in East Garfield Park, which we named The Owlery. It was the first thing recorded in the room.

I worked on it consistently through the first half of 2013 - the process was a blur of biking to the practice space, occasionally forgetting my laptop charger and having to double back, occasionally leaving for food (shoutout Taco El Jalascience and Feed), and doing takes (usually alone) for hours on end in a windowless room in a decrepit warehouse. It was the dream.

Despite the fervent creative spirit present in these tunes, I ran into some major issues - was working with what I later learned was a corrupted hard drive, and often after tracking for ~8hrs, I'd come home to find that many of the parts I'd just carefully recorded had been erased. Nonetheless, I powered thru and did the best job I could at the time, with the tools I had.

When I stumbled upon the original session files in the winter of 2022, I thought it'd be fun to see if I could improve the sound of the record, and before I knew it, what started as a fun personal project turned into something that I'm glad to share with you!
